A New Generation of Seafarers: Creating Opportunities and Strengthening the Maritime Industry
The maritime industry has long been a vital part of the Philippines’ economy, but it faces a growing challenge—the shortage of skilled and qualified seafarers. The migration of Filipino maritime workers to international opportunities and the aging domestic workforce have created a need for a new generation of professionals who can continue supporting the local shipping sector.
To address this challenge, the Maritime Cadetship Program was established to provide young Filipinos with the skills, training, and opportunities needed to build successful maritime careers.
Since its launch, the program has achieved significant milestones. Between 2023 and 2024, it successfully developed the pioneering Marine Engine Technician (MET) course, providing a specialized training pathway for aspiring maritime professionals.
The first batch welcomed 65 out-of-school youth from marginalized communities who were given the opportunity to pursue their dreams through a full scholarship. Despite starting with different levels of knowledge and experience, the cadets demonstrated determination and commitment throughout their training.
The program achieved an impressive 94% completion rate, with 61 cadets successfully finishing the course. More importantly, it achieved a 100% employment rate, with all 61 graduates hired by Primary Trident Marine Solutions Inc. (PTMSI) as Marine Engine Technicians.
For these aspiring seafarers, the program became more than just an educational opportunity—it became a pathway toward a better future. Through free training and guaranteed employment, cadets gained the confidence and skills needed to overcome financial challenges and pursue sustainable careers.

Its long-term vision is to create sustainable employment pathways that uplift communities and strengthen the domestic maritime workforce.

Even if you start with little or no knowledge of how shipping vessels operate, the program is designed to help you develop into a skilled and valued maritime professional.
